Christopher Chase-Onions
Emerging Conservation Professional
My name is Christopher Chase-Onions, I am an Emerging Conservation Professional seeking meaningful work in the Cultural Sector with a focus on applying Conservation Treatments on Artifacts and applying practical research skills to Conservation Work. As part of the Applied Museum Studies Program at Algonquin College I have recently completed my Field Placement as a Conservation Technician at Ingenium, and I am looking for new opportunities in the Cultural Sector. Between July 2023 and October 2024 I worked as a Junior Masonry Conservator for Capital Conservation Services on the Centre Block Rehabilitation, assessing, cataloguing, and reccomending repairs on the heritage stonework on levels 2-3, Staircases and Firepalces, as well as testing conservation treatments to be done by other contractors on site.
Through my time at Algonquin College and at Ingenium I have gained experience working with metal, wood, paper, ceramics, plastic, textiles, creating detailed condition reports, and performing treatments ranging from simple mechanical cleaning and framing to deep, multi-step treatments. Prior to entering the Applied Museum Studies Program I completed my Bachelor of Arts at Carleton University in Greek and Roman Studies, which gave me both an appreciation of our shared cultural history and the research skills required to properly explore and communicate the value and understanding of history to audiences. The highlight of my University Career was the Publication of my paper The Winds of Change - Athens and the Barbarian Invasions in my department’s Academic Journal, which was the culmination of months of research work. I have also done work in community outreach since 2011, working on 9 different political campaigns over that time in both paid and volunteer positions.
